The fruit of Olea europaea ‘Ascolano’ is large and has small pits, making it excellent for use as table fruit since the olives are quite sizable. It is also well-suited for use in hedges, screens, or as a lining for avenues and driveways. Additionally, Olea europaea ‘Ascolano’ is frost tolerant. While it is partially self-fertile, it produces the best crops when it is planted alongside Olea europaea ‘Frantoio’ or Olea europaea ‘Leccino’. The fruit ripens in autumn and changes color from green to red before ultimately becoming a purple-black hue. Olea europaea ‘Ascolano’ also features white flowers during the summer and grey-green leaves. Olea europaea is evergreen and native from the Mediterranean through Africa to China. Learn more about Olea europaea. Olea europaea ‘Ascolano’ originated in the Marche and Tuscany regions of Italy.
