This is a weeping tree with wide-spreading branches that cascade to the ground. In the spring, clusters of pink buds open to reveal white flowers with a pink blush. In the autumn season, Malus 'Red Jade' produces small scarlet crabapples. Malus 'Red Jade' is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and a seedling of Malus x scheideckeri 'Exzellenz Thiel'. 'Red Jade' was raised in 1935 by George Reed at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens in New York City, New York, United States and was introduced in 1953.
