Plum ‘Burbank’ produces large, sweet and juicy fruit with yellow flesh and dark-red, round skin. It is a heavy cropper, yielding fruit in mid-summer. Plum ‘Burbank’ features white flowers in spring and yellow autumn leaves. Although it is partially self-fertile, planting it with another cultivar such as Plum ‘Santa Rosa’ can result in better yields. Plum is deciduous and native to Russia, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Plum ‘Burbank’ was selected in 1885 by Luther Burbank (1849-1926) in Santa Rosa, California, United States from seedlings he had received from Isaac Bunting in Yokohama, Japan. Luther sent one to Professor Van Deman, a pomologist for the United States Department of Agriculture, who recommended that this seedling be named after Luther Burbank, and the American Pomological Society introduced Prunus salicina ‘Burbank’ in 1897.
