During the spring season, Acer pseudoplatanus ‘Esk Sunset’ produces large pink leaves mottled with white, which then shift to a deep-green color splashed with pink and white during the summer. The leaves have a striking burgundy undersurface. Acer pseudoplatanus ‘Esk Sunset’ grows at a slow pace and exhibits bright yellow and orange leaves during autumn. It’s worth noting that its seeds are toxic to horses. Acer pseudoplatanus ‘Esk Sunset’ is capable of tolerating cold, coastal exposure, and some drought conditions. It thrives in a cool summer climate with soil that is both moist and well-drained. Acer pseudoplatanus is deciduous and native to Europe. Acer pseudoplatanus ‘Esk Sunset’ was selected by John Wills at Trelinnoe Park in the Esk Valley near Napier, New Zealand and was released into the New Zealand nursery trade in the 1990s.
