Magnolia ‘Ian’s Red’ produces large, saucer-shaped flowers with a glowing, clear-red color and heavy texture in late-winter. The flowers can be as wide as 20cm and have 12 tepals. Magnolia ‘Ian’s Red’ is a prolific bloomer from an early age and forms a round-headed shape. Magnolia ‘Ian’s Red’ is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Magnolia x soulangeana ‘Pickard’s Ruby’ and Magnolia ‘Vulcan’. Magnolia ‘Ian’s Red’ was raised before 2004 by Ian Baldick in Drury, New Zealand.
