Magnolia ‘Burgundy Star’
Magnolia
Magnolia ‘Burgundy Star’ produces a profusion of large, slightly-fragrant, glowing wine-red flowers that can reach up to 25cm in width. It is a very floriferous tree, beginning to flower at an early age and continuing to do so for an extended period. With a narrow, erect growth habit, it is an excellent choice for limited spaces and is also a great street tree. Its blooms appear in mid-spring. Magnolia ‘Burgundy Star’ is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Magnolia liliiflora ‘Nigra’ and Magnolia ‘Vulcan’. ‘Burgundy Star’ was raised in 1993 by Mark Jury in Tikorangi, Taranaki, New Zealand and was introduced in 2006 (PVR 30707).
