Avocado ‘Zutano’
Avocado
Originating in Fallbrook, California in 1926 under R.L. Ruitt’s care, Avocado ‘Zutano’ produces large fruit in winter and early spring. With a thin shiny skin, they are often used as pollinator trees. While self-fertile in warmer climates, Avocado ‘Zutano’ is classified as a B flowering type, so planting Avocado ‘Zutano’ near an Avocado ‘Reed’ or Avocado ‘Hass’ enhances fruit production in colder climates. Plant in full sun with well-draining soil, and regularly fertilize in spring and summer. Avocado ‘Zutano’ is recognized as one of the more cold-tolerant varieties.
