In spring, the foliage is soft and lime-green with red margins. By mid-summer, the leaves turn green and then transform to gold, orange, and red in the autumn. The young stems have a brilliant red bark in the winter. Acer palmatum ‘Fjellheim’ thrives in moist, well-drained soils but may suffer from leaf scorch if exposed to excess sun, wind, or drought.
