Vitex lucens

Young trees typically grow upright, but will eventually form a large, spreading canopy after several decades. The leaves are a rich shade of green and feature wavy edges, adding to its ornamental value. In the late-autumn to mid-spring period, it produces pink-red flowers that attract tuis and bellbirds, while wood pigeons favor the red berries that are produced from mid-summer to mid-spring. Vitex lucens is capable of tolerating wind and coastal exposure, but can only withstand light frosts. Vitex lucens is evergreen and native to New Zealand.
