Sophora tetraptera
Large-leaved Kōwhai
Sophora tetraptera has larger leaves and flowers compared to Sophora microphylla. Its slender form gives it an elegant and airy appearance. The golden-yellow flowers are known to attract nectar-seeking birds. It is recommended to grow it in a location with some sun or semi-shade, and where the soil is not too dry. It can be particularly attractive when placed overlooking water. Flowers typically bloom from mid-spring to early summer. Sophora tetraptera is evergreen and native to New Zealand. Learn more.
