This is a large, broad-headed tree with deep-green leaves that turn red and yellow in autumn, adding to its beauty. Quercus rubra becomes a high-branched, wide-spreading tree with a deep rooting-system, which allows lawn and other plants to be grown underneath it. Additionally, Quercus rubra produces acorns.
