Prunus x hillieri ‘Spire’
Flowering Cherry
Prunus x hillieri ‘Spire’ has a densely-branched, narrow, upright form with smaller leaves. Its green leaves turn red and orange in autumn, and it becomes a cloud of dainty, white to soft-pink blossoms in early-spring. Prunus x hillieri ‘Spire’ is great for narrow spaces and lining driveways, and it makes an excellent street tree. Prunus x hillieri is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and is a hybrid between Prunus incisa and Prunus sargentii. Prunus x hillieri ‘Spire’ was developed in the 1920s at Hillier Nurseries in Ampfield, United Kingdom and was introduced in 1956.
