The plums have purple-red skin and red flesh, and Prunus salicina ‘Satsuma’ produces white flowers during the spring season. The fruit typically ripens around late-summer and while Prunus salicina ‘Satsuma’ is partially self-fertile, planting it with Prunus salicina ‘Santa Rosa’ or Prunus salicina ‘Shiro’ can result in better yields. Additionally, the leaves of Prunus salicina ‘Satsuma’ turn yellow in the autumn months. Prunus salicina is deciduous and native to Russia, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
