The fruit has dark red-purple skin and sweet, juicy, red flesh. Plum ‘Ruby Queen’ is highly productive, with good disease resistance, making it an excellent choice for organic growing and areas with high humidity. The fruit ripens in late-summer to early-autumn, and Plum ‘Ruby Queen’ produces white flowers in the spring season. Plum ‘Ruby Queen’ requires Plum ‘Santa Rosa’ for pollination. Additionally, the leaves of Plum ‘Ruby Queen’ turn yellow in the autumn months. Plum is deciduous and native to Russia, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Plum ‘Ruby Queen’ was selected in 1985 by W. R. Okie and his colleagues at the Agricultural Research Service Southeastern Fruit and Tree Nut Research Laboratory in Byron, Georgia, United States and was released in 2004.
