The fruit has a sizable and dark-red skin, with flesh that is also dark-red in color. It is a freestone variety, with a sweet, juicy, and very firm texture, and is typically ripe around late-summer to early-autumn. Plum ‘Hawera’ blooms white flowers during the spring, and it is self-fertile. Additionally, the leaves of Plum ‘Hawera’ turn yellow in the autumn months.
