Plum ‘Hawera’

The fruit has a sizable and dark-red skin, with flesh that is also dark-red in color. It is a freestone variety, with a sweet, juicy, and very firm texture, and is typically ripe around late-summer to early-autumn. Plum ‘Hawera’ blooms white flowers during the spring, and it is self-fertile. Additionally, the leaves of Plum ‘Hawera’ turn yellow in the autumn months. Plum is deciduous and native to Russia, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Plum ‘Hawera’ was discovered growing on the roadside near Hawera, Taranaki, New Zealand.
