Platanus orientalis ‘Fitzherbert’ is a selected form of Platanus orientalis that is able to withstand exposed and windy conditions, as well as heavy clay soils. It is a compact and upright grower, featuring deeply-cut green leaves. Additionally, Platanus orientalis ‘Fitzherbert’ is resistant to disease. During the autumn season, its leaves turn a beautiful shade of yellow, providing a stunning display of fall colors. Platanus orientalis is deciduous and native from the eastern Mediterranean to Iran. Platanus orientalis ‘Fitzherbert’ was developed in New Zealand to withstand the Manawatū environment and is the feature tree in Fitzherbert Avenue, Palmerston North.
