Photinia x fraseri ‘Superhedge’
Red Tip Photinia
Photinia x fraseri ‘Superhedge’ has a vigorous and quick-growing habit and produces new growth with rich burgundy-red foliage. It clips well and can be formed into a beautiful hedge or screen. If left unpruned from the previous year, it produces small white flowers in the spring. Photinia x fraseri is evergreen, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Photinia glabra and Photinia serratifolia (syn. Photinia serrulata). Photinia x fraseri was found around 1940 in a batch of seedlings raised at Fraser Nurseries in Birmingham, Alabama, United States and was first put into commerce in 1955. Photinia x fraseri ‘Superhedge’ was developed before 1999 by Paradise Plants Nursery in Kulnura, New South Wales, Australia (PVR 1778).
