Photinia x fraseri ‘Red Robin’
Red Tip Photinia
Photinia x fraseri ‘Red Robin’ features large, glossy-green leaves that are topped with shining red new growth, which can be promoted by regular clipping. It is a tough and versatile large bush that clips easily into a hedge or screen and can be shaped into any form desired. If left unpruned from the previous year, it produces small white flowers in the spring. Photinia x fraseri is evergreen, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Photinia glabra and Photinia serratifolia (syn. Photinia serrulata). Photinia x fraseri was found around 1940 in a batch of seedlings raised at Fraser Nurseries in Birmingham, Alabama, United States and was first put into commerce in 1955. Photinia x fraseri ‘Red Robin’ was developed in New Zealand.
