Photinia x fraseri ‘Dark Knight’
Red Tip Photinia
Photinia x fraseri ‘Dark Knight’ is great for use in hedging and screening, featuring a vigorous and upright growth habit with an excellent branching structure. It has fiery-red new growth that slowly ages to a dark maroon color before finishing on a dark, glossy-green. If left unpruned from the previous year, it produces small white flowers in the spring. Photinia x fraseri is evergreen, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Photinia glabra and Photinia serratifolia (syn. Photinia serrulata). Photinia x fraseri was found around 1940 in a batch of seedlings raised at Fraser Nurseries in Birmingham, Alabama, United States and was first put into commerce in 1955. Photinia x fraseri ‘Dark Knight’ was developed in New Zealand.
