Pear ‘Hosui’
Pear
Pear ‘Hosui’ has golden-brown skin, and is extremely juicy with fine-grain textured flesh, a rich flavour and tastes distinctly of brandy. Partly self-fertile but will produce more fruit when planted near another Asian Pear, or Bartlett variety. Early spring brings dainty white flowers, and copper bronze foliage, followed by fruit in mid-summer, and finally bright red leaves in autumn. Prune in late spring to early summer to encourage the best crop. Pear ‘Hosui’ will easily grow in fertile well-drained soils and full sun, but will need shelter and protection from frosts. Pear is deciduous and native to China. Pear ‘Hosui’ was first developed in the 1970’s by the National Horticulture Research Station of Japan.
