Myrsine australis is a compact grower with yellow-green to dark-green leaves that are mottled with red. The new stems of Myrsine australis are red, and it is wind tolerant. It grows well in both sun and semi-shade and makes a superb, dense hedge that can be easily trimmed into any shape or form. Myrsine australis produces small, purple-black fruit in the autumn and small white flowers from mid-summer to early autumn. Myrsine australis is evergreen and native to New Zealand.
