Michelia doltsopa
Temple Magnolia
This strong-growing tree has a neat, pyramidal shape and produces highly-perfumed, magnolia-like blooms in early spring to early summer. The flowers are large, cream-white, and emerge from showy, brown, furry buds. The glossy, rich-green leaves of Michelia doltsopa drop when it’s in bloom, but it quickly refoliates. Michelia doltsopa is correctly known as Magnolia doltsopa, but the incorrect name has been retained for consistency with the New Zealand market. Magnolia doltsopa is evergreen and native to Bhutan, Myanmar, China, India, and Nepal. Learn more about Magnolia doltsopa.
