Metrosideros excelsa 'Lighthouse'
Pōhutukawa

A more compact and erect-growing pōhutukawa. A well-structured tree that is suited to the average-sized garden. Produces beautiful bright-red flowers from early to mid-summer. Vulnerable to heavy frosts, especially when young. Hardy tree, tolerating most soil and environmental conditions. Has green leaves with silver-grey undersides. Metrosideros excelsa 'Lighthouse' was selected by Graeme Platt about 1983 and he gave it the name 'Lighthouse' because it was sourced from a tree growing near the lighthouse at the north-western end of Rangitoto Island.
