Japanese Crabapple

SKU: _MALFLO
View stock levels and order form

This strong-growing tree can be trained to form a horizontal canopy of arching branches. During early spring, Malus x floribunda produces a mass of crimson-red buds that open to white flowers with a hint of pink. In the autumn, Malus x floribunda develops small red crabapples, and they are often quickly consumed by birds. Malus x floribunda is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and probably a hybrid between Malus toringo and Malus baccata. Malus x floribunda was first introduced to Europe from Japanese cultivation sometime in the 19th century by Philipp Franz von Siebold (1796 – 1866).
