Malus ‘Barbara Ann’ produces fragrant, double pink blossoms in the spring that contrast with the new red leaves. Malus ‘Barbara Ann’ has an upright and open growing habit, making it well-suited for training, such as espaliering. In the autumn, small dark red-purple crabapples can be found on Malus ‘Barbara Ann’. Malus ‘Barbara Ann’ is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Malus ‘Dorothea’ and Malus x purpurea. Malus ‘Barbara Ann’ was propagated by Dr. Donald Wyman at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University and named after his youngest daughter.
