Magnolia ‘Sweetheart’ produces a profusion of large, heavily-textured, rich purple-pink flowers with pale-pink to white interiors, which can be up to 30cm wide and usually have about 12 tepals. Magnolia ‘Sweetheart’ begins to flower from an early age, with the flowering occurring in mid-spring. An excellent choice for a street tree, especially in restricted spaces where height is required. It is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and a seedling of Magnolia ‘Caerhays Belle’. ‘Sweetheart’ was raised before 2000 by Peter Cave in New Zealand.
