Magnolia stellata ‘Dawn’ is considered one of the best pink-flowering star magnolias. Its flowers are pink in bud, opening to a blush-pink color and fading to white-pink. The flowers have between 40 to 45 tepals and are a lighter pink shade than those of Magnolia stellata ‘Jane Platt’. Magnolia stellata ‘Dawn’ is a strong and vigorous grower, and it produces an abundance of flowers in early spring. Magnolia stellata is deciduous and native to Japan. ‘Dawn’ was selected in the 1970s by Harold Hopkins from a residential neighbourhood in Bethesda, Maryland, United States.
