Magnolia liliiflora ‘Nigra’ has slender buds that unfurl into dark red-purple flowers with cream-white interiors. Each flower features six tepals. It typically starts blooming at a young age and produces flowers mostly in spring, but can also continue blooming into the summer. Magnolia liliiflora is deciduous and native to China. ‘Nigra’ was introduced from Japan into Britain in 1861 by John Gould Veitch.
