Magnolia ‘Atlas’ produces large, cup-shaped flowers that are lilac-pink in color with cream-white interiors. The flowers can reach up to 35cm in diameter, with tepals that are up to 15cm wide. It typically blooms in mid-spring and starts producing flowers from an early age. Magnolia ‘Atlas’ has an erect and open-headed tree form, but it only produces flowers at the branch tips, adding to its unique visual appeal. Magnolia ‘Atlas’ is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Magnolia x soulangeana ‘Lennei Alba’ and Magnolia ‘Mark Jury’. Magnolia ‘Atlas’ was bred by Felix Jury in New Zealand in the 1960s and introduced in 1989.
