View stock levels and order form

Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Lane Roberts’ has a neat, pyramidal growth habit with smooth bark and distinctive, rich crimson-red to purple autumn leaves. Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Lane Roberts’ reliably produces brilliant fall colors every year, regardless of the climatic conditions. It’s an excellent choice as a street tree. However, it’s important to note that in dry soil, Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Lane Roberts’ produces a taproot that helps reinforce it against wind, but in wetter soil, it only grows superficial roots and cannot tolerate much wind. Liquidambar styraciflua is native from central and eastern United States to Central America. ‘Lane Roberts’ was discovered in the garden of Cedric Lane-Roberts in Hertfordshire, England. Harold Hillier noticed it when he visited the garden and first listed it in The Hillier Manual of Trees and Shrubs in 1971.
