Juglans regia

Juglans regia is a slow-growing option with a wide-spreading, rounded head. It is an excellent choice for planting in paddocks. Juglans regia produces easy-to-crack walnuts during the autumn months, usually around fifteen years from planting. During the late spring to early summer, Juglans regia produces yellow-green catkins which serve as a source of pollen for bees. While Juglans regia is self-fertile, it can produce better crops when planted with a walnut cultivar like Juglans regia ‘Meyric’, Juglans regia ‘Shannon’, or Juglans regia ‘Wilson’s Wonder’. Juglans regia is deciduous and native to the region stretching from the Balkans eastward to the Himalayas and southwest China.
