Ilex x meserveae ‘Blue Prince’

Ilex x meserveae ‘Blue Prince’ is a male cultivar and features dark, blue-green, spiny leaves with purple-black stems. It is a slow, dense, bushy grower and produces a profusion of small, white flowers during the summer. It is recommended to plant Ilex x meserveae ‘Blue Prince’ as a companion pollinator to the female Ilex x meserveae ‘Blue Angel’. Ilex x meserveae ‘Blue Prince’ is an excellent option for use in hedging and can tolerate semi-shade and cold conditions. Ilex x meserveae is evergreen, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Ilex aquifolium and Ilex rugosa. Ilex x meserveae was first crossed by Kathleen Meserve in St. James, New York in the 1950s.
