A genus of flowering evergreen trees native to southern China, Taiwan, Indochina, southeast North America, and the tropical rainforests of Central and South America.
Species: Gordonia axillaris, axillāris (Latin, adjective), meaning 'axillary, relating to an axil, situated in or rising from an axil', in reference to the flowers of this species being borne from the leaf axils (the positions along shoots where the leaves develop).
