Genus: Eucalyptus, eucalyptus, derived from the Greek prefix εὐ (eu, 'good, well') and verb καλύπτω (kalúptō, 'to cover, conceal'), meaning 'well-covered', in reference to the operculum (protective cap-like structure) that covers the unopened flower buds. Commonly known as eucalypt, a genus of flowering trees, shrubs, and mallees, mostly native to Australia.
Species: Eucalyptus nicholii, nicholii (Latinised), named in 1929 by Joseph Maiden (1859 - 1925) and William Blakely (1875 - 1941) to honour Joseph Maiden's private secretary, Richard Nicol.
