Genus: Drepanostachyum, drepanostachyum, derived from the Greek nouns δρεπάνη (drepánē, 'sickle') and στάχυς (stákhus, 'an ear of grain'), in reference to the synflorescences (clusters of flowers) of species in this genus being shaped like a spike. Commonly known as bamboo, a genus of grasses native to China, Indochina, and the Indian Subcontinent.
Species: Drepanostachyum falcatum, falcātum (Latin, adjective), meaning 'curved, hooked, sickle-shaped', in reference to the sickle-shaped flowering branches of this species.
