Has a fibrous, rust-brown trunk which is often surrounded by a neat skirt of dead fronds. The living fronds form a dense crown. Prefers full-sun to part-shade. Keep moist while establishing and during dry spells.

Family: Dicksoniaceae, a family of ferns that are found mostly in tropical regions of the Southern Hemisphere, but can be found as far south as southern New Zealand.
Genus: Dicksonia, dicksonia (Latinised), named after the Scottish nurseryman and botanist James Dickson (1738 - 1822). A genus of tree ferns found in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Saint Helena, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Australia, Indonesia, New Guinea, and the Philippines.
Species: Dicksonia fibrosa, fibrosa (Latin, adjective), meaning 'fibrous', in reference to the trunk of this species, which is protected by a thick layer of fibrous material.
