Daphniphyllum macropodum
Daphniphyllum
Daphniphyllum macropodum has glossy, dark-green leaves resembling those of rhododendrons, which typically hang down during the winter months, exposing the bright-red leaf stalks on new growth. In the spring, new growth appears in a pale-green hue, sometimes tinged with pink. Male flowers, which are purple-pink, and female flowers, which are pale-green, are produced by separate plants in late spring. Once pollinated, the female plants produce blue-black berries in the autumn season. Daphniphyllum macropodum is evergreen and native to China, Japan, and Korea.
