It produces impressive double crimson-red flowers that completely cover Crataegus x media ‘Paul’s Scarlet’ in late spring. In the fall, Crataegus x media ‘Paul’s Scarlet’ produces red fruits that are enjoyed by birds. Crataegus x media ‘Paul’s Scarlet’ is an excellent choice for street planting. However, it does not develop any significant autumn color, and its branches have thorns. It is a very tough tree that can grow in almost all conditions. Crataegus x media ‘Paul’s Scarlet’ was propagated by William Paul and unveiled at the International Horticultural Exhibition of 1866.
