Citrus orange ‘Carter’s Navel’ is known for its excellent flavor, sweetness, and seedless nature. The fruit can remain juicy for up to 2-3 months if left on, and typically ripens in late winter. Citrus orange ‘Carter’s Navel’ produces scented white flowers throughout the summer months and is self-fertile, making it an easy and convenient option for gardeners looking to cultivate fruit without the need for additional pollinators. Citrus orange is evergreen, a hybrid between Citrus reticulata and Citrus maxima, and native to China, India, and Myanmar. ‘Carter’s Navel’ is presumed to be a bud variation of unknown origin. Several old trees were noted about 1925 in the A. N. Carter orchard at Sierra Madre, California, United States. Citrus orange ‘Carter’s Navel’ was introduced by Armstrong Nurseries in Ontario, California, United States in 1928.
