It is a heavy-bearer, producing juicy, sweet, and tangy grapefruit. Citrus grapefruit ‘Golden Special’ has scented white flowers that bloom throughout the summer season. The fruit ripens from mid-winter to late-spring, providing a delicious flavor during the colder months. It is also self-fertile, meaning that it does not require additional pollination from other trees to produce fruit. Citrus grapefruit is evergreen and a hybrid between Citrus x sinensis and Citrus maxima. Citrus grapefruit is evergreen and native to Barbados. Citrus grapefruit ‘Golden Special’ has been the most common grapefruit cultivar in New Zealand since the 1970s.
