Family: Cercidiphyllaceae, a family of deciduous trees.
Genus: Cercidiphyllum, cercidiphyllum, derived from the genus name Cercis and the Greek noun φύλλον (phúllon, 'leaf'), in reference to the leaves of species in this genus resembling those of species in the genus Cercis. Commonly known as katsura, a genus of deciduous trees native to China and Japan.
Species: Cercidiphyllum japonicum, jāpōnicum (Latin, adjective), meaning 'Japanese, of or relating to Japan', in reference to this species' native geographical location.
