Carpinus betulus
European Hornbeam

Strong, pyramidal form when young, becoming rounded with age. The rich-green leaves are heavily-ribbed. Yellow autumn leaves, then brown through winter. Excellent as a hedge. Very popular for pleaching. Yellow-green catkins in early to mid-spring are a good source of pollen for bees.
