Camellia ‘High Fragrance’ produces large, peony pink-white flowers that open from salmon-pink buds and exude a delicious, strong fragrance reminiscent of Camellia lutchuensis. Blooming for an extended period from mid-winter through mid-spring, it has an open growth habit with dark-green leaves that typically measure 7.5cm long by 4.5cm wide. The flowers are usually 9-10cm wide by 6.5cm deep, and contain 30 petals, about 10 petaloids, and some stamens with white filaments and yellow anthers. Camellia ‘High Fragrance’ is evergreen, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Camellia japonica ‘Mrs Bertha A. Harms’ and the hybrid formed from Camellia ‘Salab’ and Camellia ‘Scentuous’. Camellia ‘High Fragrance’ was produced by J. R. Finlay in Whangārei, New Zealand and first flowered in 1985.
