Camellia ‘Black Lace’ is a formal-looking camellia with large, dark-red, double flowers that bloom during the spring season. It’s a compact, upright-grower that’s ideal for use as a hedge. Camellia ‘Black Lace’ features dark-green, glossy leaves, usually measuring 8cm long by 4cm wide. The flowers are typically 11cm wide by 4cm deep, containing 130-140 petals and never showing stamens. Camellia ‘Black Lace’ is evergreen, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Camellia x williamsii ‘Donation’ and Camellia x reticulata ‘Crimson Robe’. Camellia ‘Black Lace’ was produced by L. W. Ruffin in Mississippi, United States and first flowered in 1965.
