Beilschmiedia tawa grows slowly but is long-lasting, and ultimately, it can become a giant in the forest. It grows erect with almost black bark, and its small willowy leaves are pale green and hang in a graceful manner. In the winter, the large purple berries of Beilschmiedia tawa are beloved by wood pigeons. Beilschmiedia tawa is evergreen and native to New Zealand.
