Apple ‘Liberty’ is an excellent choice for organic growers as it is highly resistant to black spot disease and requires little, if any, spraying. The fruit has a red blush, with a crisp, juicy, sweet-tart flavor, and Apple ‘Liberty’ is known to be a heavy bearer. The fruit becomes ripe from mid to late autumn, and in spring, the pink buds develop into white flowers. While Apple ‘Liberty’ is self-fertile, it is best to plant it with early-flowering cultivars such as Apple ‘Braeburn’ to achieve the best crop. Additionally, the fruit is an excellent keeper. Apple is deciduous and native to Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and China. Learn more about Apple. Apple ‘Liberty’ was developed in 1955 by the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, New York, United States and was first released into commerce in 1978.
