Apple ‘Fuji’ produces large, sweet, crisp, red-skinned apples, similar to ‘Red Delicious’. The fruit ripens in late autumn and is excellent for eating and storage. Apple ‘Fuji’ is a vigorous grower and produces pink buds that open to white flowers in spring. It requires Apple ‘Braeburn’, Apple ‘Golden Delicious’, or Apple ‘Red Delicious’ for pollination and fruit production. Apple is deciduous and native to Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and China. Apple ‘Fuji’ was developed in the late 1930s at Tohoku Research Station in Fujisaki, Aomori, Japan and was released into commerce in 1962.
