Family: Podocarpaceae, podocarp family, a family of mainly Southern Hemisphere coniferous trees and shrubs.
Genus: Afrocarpus, afrocarpus, meaning 'African fruit', derived from the Latin prefix afro (found in Africa) and the Greek noun καρπός (karpós, 'fruit'), in reference to this species' native geographical location and the prominent fruit it produces. A genus of several evergreen conifers that are native to Africa.
Species: Afrocarpus mannii, mannii (Latinised), named after Georg Mann who collected the type specimen.
