Acer saccharinum
Silver Maple
Acer saccharinum features light-green leaves with lobes and silver undersides that create a beautiful visual effect when rustled by the wind. During the autumn season, its leaves turn yellow. With an open vase shape, it grows rapidly, but its shallow root system can cause issues by uplifting sidewalks and driveways, and damaging pipes. It is ideal for areas with wet soil or seasonal flooding. Although it can tolerate some wind, it may sustain damage during strong winds. While it can develop weak limbs as it ages, it remains an excellent option for quickly providing shade in challenging soil conditions. Acer saccharinum is deciduous and native to eastern and central United States and southeastern Canada. Learn more about Acer saccharinum.
