During the winter months, the green bark on young stems of Acer palmatum ‘Shidava Gold’ provides a welcome splash of color in otherwise dull areas. Acer palmatum ‘Shidava Gold’ prefers soils that are moist and well-drained, but it may experience leaf scorch if exposed to excessive sun, wind, or drought. It is cold-hardy and can also be grown as a bonsai, making it a versatile and attractive option for any garden. Acer palmatum is deciduous and native to Japan, Korea, China, eastern Mongolia, and southeast Russia. Acer palmatum ‘Shidava Gold’ was discovered as a witches’ broom mutation on Acer palmatum ‘Ukon’.
